Stewart McDonald

The artist completed a Diploma in Fine Arts at The University of Hobart majoring in Painting and Printmaking, followed by studies in Computer Animation for three years in Canberra. He found it gave him a great understanding of depth and movement, which translated well in his painting. The artists preferred medium is ink, acrylic and pastel drawing, but also enjoys the instant and immediate effects of print.

As an artist Stewart likes to express himself and experiment with various materials and techniques and finds that physical application and spontaneous mark making manifests itself in the act of painting.
His mark making takes on a calligraphic feel or looks like icons or symbols. In paint he uses high key colour – vibrate and layering paint
creating negative and positive space. The paintings although expressively allude to forms and recognisable shapes.

The Artist exhibited at Cork St Cafe & Gallery, The Hairdressing and Soju Girl restaurant and at the 39Steps Cafe, O’Connor.
